Traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of disability and death for young people in the United States. Each year it alters the lives of 5,000 Mainers and their families. When brain injury results from an accident, stroke, brain tumor, the healing process is quite different than that of other physical injuries.

Survivors leave the hospital facing tough challenges-loss of memory and organizational skill, difficulties with social interaction and personality changes, physical limitations that may affect walking, balance and speech.
