Over the last forty years, service to individuals with developmental disabilities have
become more and more community-based. As people with mental retardation and autism began to
move out of institutional settings, Goodwill was there to offer residential, vocational and
life skills training and support.
Since that time, we have helped hundreds of individuals learn to better direct
their lives and become more fully involved in their communities. Day and
Residential Services are offered in southern and central Maine by a team of
trained professional support staff. The goal of these services is to help each
individual maximize their living skills and to enhance their quality of life
and community participation. At the same time, we strive to help each person
develop his/her ability to make informed choices as they go about their daily
lives.
More than 170 people with developmental disabilities receive Goodwill's
Residential and Day services. These services were developed in conjunction
with family members and the Department of Behavioral and Developmental
Services.
